Wow it has been a long time since I’ve been on my blog or even shared to my blog’s Instagram account. A year or two? Hello again from Chelan, Wa! Today I’m hopping on to share our farmhouse mudroom makeover!
I hardly know where to begin. Where has the time gone? The past 2 years I’ve reset my focus to my photography business and spend most of my time there with clients, editing, and enjoying the down time in between! Curious what that creative passion looks like? You can check out my Chelan photography business on my website here!
When I’m not chasing sunsets with my camera I’m at home enjoying the view with a book or driving my kiddos around to our next adventure. I’m still an incredible home body and can sit and read on my couch watching the sun fade every night without issue. Still, we must get something done on the house here and there!
Last winter we wrapped up the mudroom in time to make full use of it for all our winter needs. It dropped to negative 10 here for a few days, freezing pipes, causing stress and high electric bills– to say the least, we definitely needed all those coat hooks! ;)
Remember back when the mudroom looked like this? It was just a giant dump zone with a dream.
The mudroom started as a blank hole with a utility sink and some tubs for shoes. We wanted to take our time planning and executing this project (famous last words) but are very pleased with how it turned out!
Mr. G did the built-in wall tree himself. We added a few levels to the top for various storage and to make it hit the ceiling. The bottom portion we left with one side a two level shoe rack and the other with a larger opening for a bin to store hats, gloves, and other winter necessities. And before I get to far, the color we went with is Benjamin Moore At Ease Soldier. All the links can be found at the bottom of this post!
The cabinets around the sink area are the Hampton Bay assembled cabinets from Home Depot. They’re such a great price and build, with so many sizes at hand, you really can’t go wrong. The wood ones are easy to stain or paint over. And paint over them we did!
The counter is an engineered composite countertop slab from home depot that Mr. G cut a hole into for our deep stainless basin sink. It’s fabulously easy to wipe down and it came with a backsplash size cut for easy installation. I wanted this area of the mudroom to be very utilitarian. I wash boots in the sink, dirty laundry piles up on the counter, the dog is often lifted for a paw bath in the sink throughout winter– I’m no sissy and it has stood up to my abuse wonderfully!
The other side of the laundry room is where more action takes place. We have a laundry shoot! I knew as soon as the house design was coming together that having a kid’s bathroom above the laundry room was prime for a laundry shoot and we finally made it happen. The laundry shoot was a custom build by Mr. G outfitted with custom doors. The top part is for laundry and the lower door opens to storage of random and unnamable objects.
The amount of joy the kids have when dumping loads of laundry (and other paraphernalia) down the shoot may be short lived, but we will milk it while it lasts.
The laundry room door took some sleuthing to find the right size and height. But find it we did on Home Depot’s website! Now we can muffle the sound of the washing machine and dryer two times over for a much more pleasant atmosphere downstairs.
The washer and dryer sit stacked under the stairs and fit juuuust right to make it a happy use of space. Further up and further in the under stair nook is our printer, vacuum, cleaning apparatuses, and more storage for my personal crafting supplies. I’m a huge fan of well used spaces and this one is doing an admirable job.
We are so thrilled with how this farmhouse mudroom turned out! What is your favorite part?
